Maybe you’ve seen a buffalo herd,
A flying fish or a giant bird,
Or lions roaring, or tigers wild
But have you ever seen – a green child?
THE LITTLE GREEN CHILD
Some children like to color a house.
Some like to color a cat or a mouse.
Some children color a wall or a shelf
But one little child – he colored himself!
He tried some red; he tried some blue.
He tried on a little purple, too.
He looked in the mirror and when he had seen,
He did himself over again, in green.
Little Green Child
I think you'll see,
I’m ever so glad
It wasn’t me.
He colored himself from head to shoe –
His hair, his clothes, his fingers, too,
And when completely covered this way,
The Little Green Child went out to play.
The other children were scared because
They simply didn’t know who he was.
“Little Green Child, we don’t know you!”
“Little Green Child, you belong in a zoo!”
Little Green Child
Sad as could be.
I’m ever so glad
It wasn’t me.
The Little Green Child walked here and there
But nobody knew him anywhere.
At last he walked along the path
That went back home and he took a bath.
He scrubbed himself from head to shoe,
His hair, his clothes, his fingers, too.
He washed and washed from noon till four
And the Little Green Child was green no more.
Little Green Child
Oh, glory be.
I’m ever so glad
It wasn’t me.

Or lions roaring, or tigers wild
