Once upon a time, there was a young lady, way past five, getting on toward six, who was very well-behaved, most of the time. One morning, she said, “Mommy, I would like some breakfast, please.” Mommy got her some breakfast and she said, “Thank you.” A while later, she said, “Mommy, I would like to go swimming, please.” Mommy took her swimming. A while later, she said, “Mommy, I would like some ice cream, please.” Mommy went out and came back with ice cream. A while later, she said, “Mommy, I would like a red balloon.” Mommy went out and came back with a purple balloon. “Mommy, I said a red balloon.” Mommy said, “I’m sorry. I couldn’t find a red one. This is the closest I could find.” “This is not a red balloon. You don’t listen to me.” “Really, I tried. Several places. What’s wrong with purple?” “You’re not a very good mother today. I wish I had a mother that would get me a red balloon.” Suddenly, there was a great PUFF and a magic genie appeared. “Your wish is granted. You have a new mother.” She thought, “Is this for real? Let’s see.” And out loud, she said, “Mommy, I would like a red balloon." NewMommy went out and a few minutes later came back and gave her a red balloon. She was so happy. She played all the rest of the day with her new red balloon. The next morning, she said, “Mommy, I would like some breakfast, please.” NewMommy went out and came back and gave her a red balloon. After a while, she said, “Mommy, I would like to go swimming, please.” NewMommy went out and came back and gave her a red balloon. A while later, she said, “Mommy, I would like some ice cream, please.” NewMommy went out and came back and gave her a red balloon. This went on for some time and her room was getting filled up with red balloons, but no breakfast, no swimming, and no ice cream. She was sitting on her bed, kicking at the balloons. Finally, she got out her Magic Markers, found the purple one, and started coloring the red balloons.
