GETTING SLEEPY
You are getting sleepy, aren’t you?
You’ve had such a busy day.
Did you play with all your playthings?
Did you put them all away?
Are you planning your tomorrow?
Thinking what you’d like to do?
You’ll be older, wiser, bigger.
Maybe you’ll do something new.
I can see your eyelids drooping.
Drifting off to la la land.
Soon will come the magic fairy,
Bringing you the magic sand.
Would you like another story?
Is there one we haven’t read?
Teddy Bear looks awful sleepy.
Should we tuck him into bed?
Now I see that you are sleeping,
Sleeping for a little while.
Could it be you’re just pretending?
Do I see a tiny smile?
So I’ll read a little longer,
One more verse, or maybe two.
It’s all right if you don’t listen;
You have other things to do.
And I’ll read a little softer.
Words will barely reach your ear.
Even if you cannot hear me,
Do not worry; I’m still here.
Finally, you’re really sleeping
Really sleeping, so it seems,
Nothing’s left for me to do
But to wish you happy dreams.
